Saturday, August 29, 2009 Hiya, gals and guys!Have'nt written for a while now and our Ca2s had been over now!! So I'm writing for all my posts now and this is about the Singapore Pledge. To me, the pledge is not just a bunch of words. It is a dedication towards Singapore as a citizen an I feel honoured and proud to be able to recite the Pledge everyday so I recite every word, every sentence of the Pledge with energy, enthusiasm and pride. Reciting the Pledge with pride will make me into a loyal citizen of Singapore. To contibute as an active citizen, I will study hard and when I grow up, I will work hard to bring prosper to the country. Holiday Alerts-Influenza A H1N1
This virus spreads in the same way as regular seasonal influenza viruses spread; mainly through the coughs and sneezes of people who are infected with it. There is no vaccine available to prevent infection as of June 2009 although companies are developing one for availability in late July 2009 or August 2009. There is also concern that the virus can mutate over the coming months, leading to a new and potentially more dangerous flu virus later in the year and the vaccine will be less effective in preventing the virus's spread. To prevent us from being infected, other countries, including Singapore, have taken preventive measures to ensure our safety. This includes encouraging us not to go to countries that have more serious cases of this flu virus, distributing masks and quarantining infected and suspected people. I, on the other hand, also take preventive measures to ensure that I do not get this virus. I wash my hands frequently and practise good hygiene habits. JQ [unheard.whispers] 9:03 AM Saturday, May 30, 2009 Ello Friends! Today, I went to the North Zone Sports Carnival with Michelle and other pupils from Sports Class. We set off at about 7.30 a.m. and first went to Innova Junior College a.k.a. IJC. While we're walking to its stadium, I saw some pupils from its school wearing the Sports Attire. Know what the T-shirt wrote? It wrote "RUN LIKE HELL" haha! :D We then started off with Track Events once we reach the stadium. I took part in the 8*50m event. We came in third in Heats 1, Semi-Finals and managed to get into the Finals but we came in fifth. ;( If we got fourth, we'll still have a medal! Next we went to the basketball court @ Innova Primary School to watch our team play. In the end, the girls got third and the boys got second. It was fun watching them play! Finally, we went to Singapore Sports School for the Prize Presentation. That school was big, in fact it gigantic. We went to the Auditorium and it was fully air-conditioned! Waaa..! So refreshing! Earth Hour (should be Earth Minutes:P)
A few weeks ago, on April 22nd, we turned off all electrical appliances during the last fifteen minutes of our school hours to do a part for Earth Day. It was Mother-Tongue period and our Mother-Tongue teacher, Mdm Loke a.k.a. 陆老师 got all of us out to the breezy corridor rather than staying in the stuffy classroom. A few hours before, during English period, our form teacher, Miss Lee showed us a music video by Michael Jackson. It is called Earth Song. The 1st time I watched the vid, most of us were laughing due to the special effects of the vid. Actually, I though "What's so funny?", but eventually I laughed. Hehe.....The 2nd time I watched the vid, since not much laughter was heard, I could think what the singer was trying to do. He was telling us that if we do not treasure Earth now, it will soon be gone. Trees being cut down sprang back to life, dead elephant stood up, air pollution is being reduced. P5 Camp @ MOE Labrador Adventure Centre
I have just got back from the MOE Labrador Campsite, the place where my school held their annual P5 camp! I had so much fun there! I stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights. I am in Group 8 and my group name is Mexico. My instructor is Instructor Adam. On the first day of the camp, we arrived at the at the campsite at about 10a.m. or so then we gathered at the main hall. Chief Eunice gave us a brief orientation about the place before we proceeded to our Ice Breakers. At about 11.30a.m., we went down to the dining hall to have our lunch. After that we went back to the main hall and got ready our small backpack for Amusing Race @ Sentosa. We set off to Sentosa a while later with Group 7(London) and their instructor, Instructor Junice. The moment we got off the bus we started our Amusing Race. It was quite fun but the weather was very hot and I forgot to apply sunblock!!!:P Then at about 3p.m. or so where we were at Underwater World, it started to pour heavily. We had no choice but to stay there until the rain stops. Meanwhile we were amusing ourselves with the peacock. Finally after sometime, the rain stop and we could continue with our next station but it was already 4.15p.m. and we were supposed to gather at the beach station at 4.30p.m.. We had no choice so we went back to beach station. After all turned up, we went back to the campsite. After we reached our campsite, we were lead to our dormitories and were allowed to bathe. We must gather at 6p.m. (or I think it was) for our dinner.:) I rushed to the toilet and found it full of pupils. i quickly queued up in one that has less people and waited for my turn to bathe. Just then one of the female instructors came in and said that we must have at least two in a showering cubical and nine minutes for each turn. I barely had time to shampoo my hair!:P After I showered I rushed to the dining hall because I am late!!! After dinner we proceeded to our night activity called Kidnapped! Sharvin from sports class was "kidnapped" and we had to save him. I thought it was an interesting game. I had a lot of fun during this game. After this activity, we had a debrief by Instructor Adam and we were led to the dining hall for our supper. Next we had another debrief by Chief Eunice before we went for our wash up before bed. I slept at about 1.15a.m. or something. On the second day, I woke up at 5.45a.m.. I could not sleep because it was very warm. I lie on my bed wide wake for 15 minutes before I went to the toilet to brush my teeth. After that, I went to the dining hall for my breakfast. Today, we are doing high elements and I am very excited about it. I was hoping to do Flying Fox and I really did it! Whoo hoooo!!! It was extremely fun! When you first stand on the platform it was a little scary because it was three story high. It felt like I was going to commit suicide when I jumped down!! Hahahaha!:P After all the high elements, we went to the hall and for our campfire preparation. We had to think up a dance but we had none. We decided to do what our instructor says. We danced with the song Love Story by Taylor Swift and Low by Flo-Rida feat.T-pain. We practised hard and then we went for dinner. After dinner, we had our campfire!! Yay!! All the groups performed and it was a great experience! After all the performances, it was time for bed. I slept the moment I hit the bed. On the third day, I woke up at 6a.m. but I was still sleepy. I wanted to go back to sleep but the other girls switched on the light since they were all up. Waaaaa! I want to sleep since it was not even time to wake up yet but with such bright lights, how could I sleep? So I woke up and went to wash up instead. We had Nasi Lemak for breakfast and it was quite delicious! Later, we went for our area cleaning and we were to clean the girls' dormitory! Yay! At least we do not have to clean the toilets!:P Then, we gathered at the hall to take photos and sorted out into our classes. Before that, they announced the best female, male and group camper. The best female camper was Dianne while the best male camper was Kang Li. The best group camper was group 1, Instructor Joel's group. I think Instructor Joel must be a lucky charm or something. In March, when I attended a leadership camp, the best group camper was also Instructor Joel's group! Too bad I was not in his group(lolz!) Back to school, my class, Instructor Adam and Instructor Junice were seated in the same bus! Haha! Upon reaching school, I got ready to go home. This was an enriching experience for me and thx Instructor Adam! JQ [unheard.whispers] 8:34 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2009  On 28th March 2009, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm, people living in Singapore will switch off their lights for Earth Hour and send a powerful global message that we need to take action on climate change. I think that it is a very good activity as for the first time in history, it gives people of all ages, nationalities, race and background an opportunity to cast their vote for earth and I will definitely take part in this activity.About 20 government agencies, 29 NGOs and associations, 57 hotels, 61 educational institutions, 101 buildings and monuments and 311 companies in Singapore pledged to take part in Earth Hour this year. I think that it is good to see so many people participating in this activity to fight climate change actively. I think that we should have this for every month as this can reduce global warming. And besides switching off lights, we should also reduce the use of unnecessary electrical items such as air-conditioners and water-heaters. We should also recycle items such as plastic containers. If we use the plastic containers only once and we dispose them, they will be burned and burning plastic will produce harmful gases and greenhouse gases that traps sunlight and causes global warming. SS Email To Cousin About The Trip To Old Fort Factory & Bukit Chandu
Hi! How are you doing? I heard from Mum that you are going to the Old Ford Factory and Bukit Chandu. Let me share my experience with you as I went to the two places a few weeks ago for a learning journey. It was the 25th of February when I went to the two places with my friends as a class. At around 8a.m., a bus came and took us to our first destination, the Old Ford Factory, also the Japanese Headquarters during World War II. Once we reached there, we were greeted by a friendly guide called Mr Lau. He first told us about the history of the Old Ford Factory and it used to be 8 times bigger! It was also the first car assembly plant in Southeast Asia. He then led us to an auditorium to watch a clip about World War II. I did not really liked that clip as some of the scenes were quite disgusting. I remembered one scene that the Japanese killed the civilians and their blood splattered around. Then they were left on the floor. Lots of flies settled on the dying bodies. It was not a nice sight. After the clip ended, Mr Lau brought us to see the exhibits in the main hall. He also explained how the people were treated by the Japanese during those days, what they ate, what terrible diseases the people caught and much more. Later, he led us to a meeting room, the exact place where the British surrendered Singapore to the Japanese. After that, he took us to the garden where crops that were grown during the World War II grow and it was one of the things I liked most. There were tapioca, banana, rice, lallang and much more! We even walked on planks of wood that were taken from the Death Railway in Thailand! When we finished seeing the crops, it was time to say goodbye. We went up the bus and off we go to our second destination, Bukit Chandu.When we reached there, we were greeted by another guide called Mr Ho. He led us into a small room with some artifacts and started to explain what memorable event took place there. This was the place where the fiercest fighting took place in Singapore. The Malay Regiment fought bravely against the Japanese. After Mr Ho finished his speech, we were led into a slightly bigger room where we are suppose to watch a video of the Malay Regiment fighting the Japanese. It was expressed in a cartoon form. After we watched the video, we went to the main hall and Mr Ho explained how the Japanese planned their attack. After he finished, there was still time left so he brought us to the Treetop Walk. The scenery was breathtaking! This was another thing that I liked most. After that, we waved goodbye to the guide and boarded the bus to go back to school. During the journey back to school, I did a little reflection on what I learnt during this trip. I have gained so much knowledge about World War II! Just then, I thought of one of the NE messages of Singapore: We must ourselves defend Singapore. We are proud to defend Singapore ourselves, no one else is responsible for our security and well being. I think it makes sense. We should not have relied on the British to defend Singapore.
